Yeah, I saw this corridor
when we were doing the location scout.
I'm like, "This is cool."
In the original cut,
the first time I saw this scene,
it took Keenser about 20 minutes
to run down the hallway.
I mean, literally, it just went on and on.
But the anticipation of it is so great,
'cause you've just seen
the giant squid monster try and kill Kirk.
I love his eyes here.
-This is Deep Roy, of course.
-Deep Roy, of course,
playing the guy. He's awesome.
Deep is fantastic.
And actually deep.
You could really talk to that guy
about philosophy.
Look for a tribble in this scene.

So I think that our list of potential
Scottys was about one-name long,
Simon Pegg.
When I e-mailed him, I just said,
"Do you want to play Scotty?"
And I got an e-mail back that said,
"I don't think I could do that."
So I sent an e-mail back saying,
"Well, that's too bad.
"Maybe next time." You know,
"We'll find something else."
'Cause we worked on
Mission: Impossible III.
I instantly, almost before I sent it,
got an e-mail back from him that said,
"Wait, wait, not so fast."
And he just, you know...
Keenser, those eyes were put in later
by Digital Domain.
They did a couple sequence in the
movie and shots. They did a great job.
Scotty's obsession with food here,
and obviously, you know,
the grapefruit beagle story is something
that came out of the sides
-that we...
-Yeah.
That we wrote in the event
that Simon was gonna pass.
It's funny. When we were shooting
on this location, once again,
at the Budweiser plant,
we were in this real machine room area,
so every, you know, 109 seconds,
there would be this crazy
steam release.
And it'd be this crazy whistle that would
be just... It would go on for 30 seconds.
And we'd just have to stand there,
and it was late,
and I just remember
shooting this sequence was, like,
we could never quite figure out
the timing of it,
and it was always interrupting shots.
By the way,
when we leave Trek, you know,
or we're fired off of it
and replaced by somebody else,
I feel like the way that
we should mark the end of
our sort of tenure here is
that Admiral Archer's beagle
should just show up.
-I agree.
-'Cause it always bugs me.
-Where is that dog?
-I agree. I agree.
-It shows up in the novelization.
-By the way, that's right, it does.
That sandwich line was another
last-minute addition to the movie,
that line of Simon's.
I love that the shuttle is, like,
between those poles.
Literally, it's like it's just shoved in there.
-Yep.
-This is one of my favourite
shots for some reason.
I don't know why.
-Just 'cause it was...
-Yeah, totally.
One of the things that I love about this
is that the first time I saw this
in the dailies, it reminded me of Alien.
-It looked like Alien.
-It does.
It had the tactile feeling
of that dirty ship.
-And it was lit similarly.
-Yeah.
And all those movies that we grew up on
always made it feel so real.
Nothing felt digital about being in space.
What was it like
when Simon met Leonard?
Simon being, you know, one of us?
Well, he met at the read-throughs.
We just did some read-throughs.
And I remember they met there,
and Simon was appropriately starstruck.
By the way, one of the great moments
in music in this movie
is the "Live long and prosper" moment.
Giacchino's score in that moment
when Kirk disappears.
So crazy good.
-I love that Spock is lying to Kirk here.
-Yeah, that's right.
-He's using the old Doc...
-Well, it's not exactly a lie.
-He's using the Doc Brown thing.
-He's implying.

-Yeah, exactly.
But it's like, you know, this is
another road of time-travel storytelling.
Don't tell me that I'm warning you.
Look at Nimoy's face.
