This is one of the first scenes.
You shot this very early
in the schedule, right?
We did.
You almost cut this scene.
We would have had to kill you.
Everything was cut at one point. But...
There was no movie.
It was four minutes long.
But Nimoy... It was funny.
We were shooting this scene,
and about halfway through the shoot,
I took him aside and I said,
"Well, you know, how's Zachary doing?
You know Spock.
"What should..."
And he just said to me, "He's good."
Like, he was very sweet about it.
This, by the way, was looped because
the sound was really bad in this place.
And I think they did an amazing job.
Amazing.
Like, kind of shockingly, actually.
Yeah, yeah. Really amazing.
In other words, he watched
Back to the Future too many times.
And by the way, most of the time
in time-travel movies,
when you are talking
to an older version of yourself,
the same actor is playing both roles.
The fact that we didn't do that,
and this is Nimoy,
who used to play Spock, and Quinto,
who is going to be playing Spock
for the indefinite foreseeable future,
you know, I think was...

-That was amazing.

This was great set extension,
I must say,
just for those who are keeping score.

And once again, Tyler Perry.
We were shooting a scene once
and he didn't like his take.
He said, "Cut." He's like, "Oh, I'm sorry."
He's so used to directing himself.
Flare. Flare.
-In that case, flare in both senses.
-And now, here's another thing.
I remember when I first saw this
in the editing room, you read the script
when Pike says, "I am relieved,"
you go, "Wow, that is all Greenwood."
I mean, like, you just never really...
-Talk about a double entendre.
-He's terrific there.
And that wheelchair, yes,
ladies and gentlemen, does answer
yes and no with single beeps.
And literally, I'm not kidding you,
weighed, like, 4,000 pounds.
It was the worst wheelchair.
It was a beautiful look,
but it was ridiculously heavy.
I think what's so cool about
the way that the movie ends is that
people are smiling, sort of, wall-to-wall.
Like, you just get this great, you know,
when the movie ends,
everybody's so happy.
That's a very rare feeling
in movies these days.
This was Nimoy's...
He said, "Can I just say a line here?"
I said, "Sure."
And I love the bittersweet nature of that.
Come on.

Whatever. He used to say,

That was the name of the file, actually.
This was a last-minute idea,
to have Keenser back on the thing.

We called Deep and said,
