How do you feel?
It was a very
fulfilling journey.
It will take me years to
think through it all.
Being able to touch this
makes me so happy.
Just looking isn’t enough.
If I actually touch it…
…the memory will
stay with me after I leave.
I'll imagine how the wind
is blowing on it just then.
This building itself isn't important.
Saint-Exupery's wooden
barracks have disappeared.
This isn’t it.
After he quit
his job here…
…they must have built
something more permanent.
Maybe the runway
was different too.
But that doesn't really matter.
Saint-Exupery made
a journey of the spirit.
He had this
idyllic childhood.
He lived when old
Europe was disappearing.
He discovered a
kind of aristocracy…
...in the world
of the mail pilots.
His friends were killed
one after another.
After that, life was like
living in a termite colony.
Finally he disappeared
over the Mediterranean.
I'm just another member
of the colony, I guess.
Someday the sands
will swallow this building.
It will happen
to us too.
But... that's all right.
Saint-Exupery's literature…
… was born from his
experiences in the Sahara.
The future will
tell what stories…
… will be born from
Miyazaki's own journey.
